Hear how you should structure your committee, top selling items, and what you should and shouldn’t do on the day of your auction.
About Our Guest: Christina Linezo, Auction Chair and Realtor
Christina is a mom of three currently living in Orinda, California. She is heavily involved in her children’s schools and has volunteered and participated in multiple ways - serving in various board positions, as Room Parent, volunteering in the classroom and on field trips, and organizing and leading a variety of class and all-school events, social opportunities, and fundraisers - including the school auction! She is a former educator herself, with a BA in Arts Education. Christina worked at a Children’s Museum in San Francisco with K-12 students and also designed and implemented their Early Childhood program. She has since transitioned to a successful career as a Realtor in the beautiful San Francisco East Bay.

In a year where the pandemic has led to budget shortfalls, getting creative with fundraising becomes even more important and this episode will share some tips on how to turn old apparel items into fundraising dollars for your school.

Nathan Rothstein along with Ross Lohr, started Project Repat in 2012, as an easy way for people to preserve their t-shirt memories and upcycle them into t-shirt quilts. Repat now is one of the top Shopify sites in the US, and has been featured on CNN, the Today Show, NPR, and MSNBC. After graduating from UMass-Amherst, Nathan joined Americorps in New Orleans to work on Hurricane Katrina recovery projects. He now lives in Cambridge, MA with his wife, and two year old daughter.

Our guest has created some great community partnerships with these organizations and will give some tips on where to start.
About Our Guest: Travis Johnson, Podcast Host, Naval Officer, and Nonprofit Consultant
Travis is currently an active-duty officer in the United States Navy, married with two children, and on move #50. His humble beginnings include 36 moves before graduating high school at 17, 6 states, 5 foster homes, surviving 2 murder attempts, and getting in serious trouble with the law. Although this was very rough, there was always a person, group, or church willing to help him and his family. Now that he’s in a position to give back, he’s made it his mission to “Help the Helpers.” He also spent 15 years helping 400 families pay off $6 million in debt.
On the Nonprofit Architect podcast, Travis shares his perspective as the former Vice President of Books by Vets; a board member at the S.H.I.N.E. foundation; a benefactor $20,000+; a volunteer with 1,500+ hours; fundraiser with more than $500,000 raised; provided seed money for 6 startup nonprofits; event coordinator; and published author.

Alecia Whitaker is the young adult author of the award winning Wildflower trilogy (Wildflower, The Road to You, and The Way Back Home) as well as the bestselling novel, The Queen of Kentucky, which was optioned for film. She grew up on a tobacco and cattle farm in a small Kentucky town and moved to NYC in 2004. She has a BFA in acting and has appeared on talk shows such as The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Martha, and The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, as well as Deal or No Deal. Whitaker also hosted a parenting advice YouTube show called The Baby Book, has been in numerous commercials, and was chosen to narrate two of her novels for audio publication by her publisher. Christina Gibson is a wife, mother, creative and centered on community.
Christina was raised in Mobile, Alabama. She grew up in a house centered on community. Her loving parents instilled in her that helping those around you is a life-long principle that will always reward you. After starting her education at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Christina transferred to and completed her studies at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA, where she continues to reside with her husband and newly welcomed daughter.
After serving her community by working with organizations such as the Mobile International Festival and the International Rescue Committee, Christina was drawn to CreateMyCookbook where she is now the Director of Operations, managing the activities that ensure its customers are able to preserve their family recipes and memories.

Ryann Galloway Tacha is an experienced nonprofit professional. She began her career at her alma mater, The Lawrenceville School and built her skills at The Allen Stevenson School in New York City and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark, NJ. Currently she is Director of Advancement at The Barstow School in Kansas City, Missouri. The scope of her work is broad including overseeing fundraising for the school's main campus, event planning, and managing the alumni relations program. In her free time, she serves on the Executive Board of The Lawrence Arts Center and serves as president of the Kansas City/St. Louis Lawrenceville Alumni Club. Ryann lives in Lawrence, Kansas with her husband, John and her short-haired retriever, Cleo.
