About Our Guest: Travis Johnson, Podcast Host, Naval Officer, and Nonprofit Consultant
Travis is currently an active-duty officer in the United States Navy, married with two children, and on move #50. His humble beginnings include 36 moves before graduating high school at 17, 6 states, 5 foster homes, surviving 2 murder attempts, and getting in serious trouble with the law. Although this was very rough, there was always a person, group, or church willing to help him and his family. Now that he’s in a position to give back, he’s made it his mission to “Help the Helpers.” He also spent 15 years helping 400 families pay off $6 million in debt.
On the Nonprofit Architect podcast, Travis shares his perspective as the former Vice President of Books by Vets; a board member at the S.H.I.N.E. foundation; a benefactor $20,000+; a volunteer with 1,500+ hours; fundraiser with more than $500,000 raised; provided seed money for 6 startup nonprofits; event coordinator; and published author.

The PTA Dad, and how to get more Dads in PTA leadership positions
Friday Jan 08, 2021
Friday Jan 08, 2021
The first male president of the national PTA did not take office until 2009 and in that same year, only 10% of national PTA members were men. Why don’t more men join and how can we change that? This episode features a Utah PTA dad who holds a role 100% focused on changing these statistics. Learn how you can make a change in your organization as well.
About our guest:
Jason Nackos is a former teacher who taught at the junior high level for 3 years before he “retired” to raise his kids full time. He started to get involved in the PTA once his youngest started school full time because of his desire to be in the school and embarrass his kids on a regular basis. He has served two years as Membership VP, one as President Elect and one as PTA President at Mapleton Elementary in Mapleton, Utah. He currently serves as the Male Engagement Specialist for Utah PTA where he oversees a committee that focuses on increasing male involvement throughout the state. He and his friend Ryan Schriever (a local attorney and former Membership VP at Mapleton Elementary) went viral with a carpool karaoke video in 2018 that co-starred their principal. From there they continued to make videos for their school and for Utah PTA and became affectionately known as The PTA Dads. Some of their videos can be found at the Mapleton Elementary PTA YouTube page.

Ever wonder how to cut through the noise on social media? We will talk about how schools, PTAs and PTOs can connect with their audience, create engaging content, and effectively manage their social media accounts. We will be joined by social media veteran, Matthew Desilet, and it may surprise you to hear who he suggests should run your social media accounts.
